An
excerpt: The result of this split was
the formation of two kingdoms, the ten tribes of
the North who called themselves Israel, and the
house of Judah in the south. None remained faithful
to the house of David except for Judah. These two
kingdoms are known as the Northern kingdom, or Israel,
and the Southern kingdom, or Judah. Jeroboam was
set as king over the northern kingdom, and Rehoboam
remained king of Judah in the south and the harmony
of David’s kingdom was broken even until this
day. If you have ever survived a church split, you
are probably aware of the hostilities associated
with such divisions. People are wounded deeply and
unfortunately some of those wounds seem to never
heal. Such was the case in the dividing of David’s
kingdom. As a matter of fact, 1 Kings 12:19 tells
us that “Israel has been in rebellion
against the house of David to this day”.
This is important to remember because as you will
see, I believe that the institution of the “church”
rose up from the descendants of the Northern kingdom,
and to this day there is animosity between them
and Judah, or rather the Christians and the Jews.
